Operating System
SERVER: Win 2003 or Win 2008 (Vision is 64-bit ready so it will run on 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems).
PC workstation requirements are Windows Vista, XP, or Windows 7.
Vision will not run on Windows ME or Windows 98.
All PC workstation operating systems are required to have the latest up to date service packs and updates from Microsoft.
Vision can technically operate on Windows 2000 however Windows 2000 is unsupported by Pluss or by Microsoft.
Network Connectivity
PTM Recommends that the PTM Vision application be run in a terminal environment in order to circumvent common network connectivity issues that PC users experience. Microsoft Terminal Services is recommended as a good technology for accomplishing this.
We recommend shielded cat5 cable to connect your network devices. Wireless is not recommended and should be avoided when not using Terminal Services or another terminal solution. When utilizing Microsoft Terminal Services or another terminal solution, wireless should suffice for a connection, but physical cable runs are still recommended for best performance and reliability.
The database used in Vision is a flat table database, and therefore susceptible to the default OpLocks settings of Windows Server 2008 operating systems. Using Vision on Windows networks and accessing data shares across the network without disabling OpLocks is not recommended or supported and may result in data corruption.Alternatively, running PTM Vision on a properly configured server using a terminal access technology such as Mircosoft Terminal Services, will also prevent these types of issues in most cases.
Minimum Requirements
1.2 GH or better processor
256 MB RAM
500 MB hard disk space
A server operating system is recommended to store the PTM Vision data for access, and in some circumstances it is required. A home or workstation version of Microsoft Windows supports only a limited number of connections. (Ex. Windows 7 Ultimate supports 20 SMB connections.) A connection could be anything from a system share to a shared printer being accessed by a networked pc. If a system shares 4 resources and all are accessed by each additional workstation, the system would only be able to operate with a maximum of 5 users under this scenario. In some cases a single point of access may utilize multiple sessions and thus lower your total available sessions exponentially. A properly configured server operating system would not fall victim to the same limitations.
Performance Recommendation
2.2 GH or better processor
512+ Ram
500 mb disk space
Additional modules may require additional resources
Printers
PTM-Vision will print to nearly any Laserjet, Inkjet, or Deskjet printer.
Vision will also print out to Dot Matrix however, the graphical interface may not be to your liking (not suggested).
