4.) Closing All Open Files Automatically on NT systems
Ensuring a good backup of PTM files to a tape drive requires all
PTM files to be closed. Tape backup software i.e. NT Backup, Veritas, Tapeware
will not backup an open file. If any computer on the network is running PTM or
an error occurred on the network, which prevented the files from closing
correctly, there will be open files on the Server. When the backup program runs
that night it will skip those open files.
When PTM is simply sitting on the Main Menu there are 18 open
files per computer on the Server. These files involve the main databases in
PTM: Inventory, Customer, Parts Sold, Kits, Open Work orders, and Closed Work
order databases. We have found a utility to close all of the open files on the
Server so the tape backup will backup all of the PTM files.

the Georgia/North Carolina area and will be working out of an office at his
